Cwtch Mawr Multibank
Cwtch Mawr means “Big Hug” in English. Cwtch Mawr Multibank is operated by the Swansea Bay area charity Faith In Families. Its redistribution mission is described as “Hugs not Handouts”.
Impact Since Launch
Since launching in March 2024, Cwtch Mawr Multibank has redistributed more than 250,000 items to over 86,000 beneficiaries, including 27,000 families. Community support organisations, schools and colleges, homeless shelters, and elderly support services are among the charities across the Swansea Bay and Neath and Port Talbot areas combating issues of poverty.
Addressing Poverty
More than 1 in 3 children are living in poverty across Wales, with 32,500 children and young people in the Swansea Bay area alone caught up in the poverty epidemic. By redistributing surplus items such as warm clothes, hygiene products, school uniforms, and bedding donated by businesses like locally-based Amazon, Cwtch Mawr provides material comfort and dignity for children, young people, and their families. This initiative ensures opportunities, security, and the chance to experience the joy and freedom of childhood, which Faith In Families is dedicated to.
